| A Marriage Intensive is not a seminar, workshop, retreat, or limited to one hour of therapy. Instead, an Intensive is a time-limited, highly-focused, in-depth therapy experience individually tailored to meet the specific needs of a couple without the constraints of a 50-minute, traditional therapy hour.
Marriage Intensives use either an individual format (one couple) or a group format (multiple couples). It targets those who are in a crisis, stuck, discouraged, and hopeless. These couples have typically "tried everything else" and have not seen results or a breakthrough. Most couples who attend a Marriage Intensive view it as a "last ditch effort" to save their marriage.
Marriage Intensives are led by the professional counselors of the TurningPoint staff. These counselors are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to handle the complex dynamics and deeper needs of couples in crisis.
Marriage Intensives are not inexpensive, although when averaged against the costs of long-term weekly counseling, they are relatively cheaper. We have found that when a partner is willing to make a significant financial investment, it sends two clear messages to the other spouse.
- I am willing to make a significant investment in strengthening our marriage.
- I am more likely to follow through and finish the work on our relationship as shown by my monetary investment.
This investment, coupled with being in a sequestered place, makes it more difficult for the couple to drop out before the intensive is complete. We have discovered that couples are more likely to commit to one day of intensive therapy versus hour-long sessions over a long period of time. |
